Jesus Father is Our Father Too

“Our Father Who art in heaven,...”

Luke 11:2

I remember times when, while I was cooking, my children would gather together in the kitchen and begin to talk to me. My son would not say much but my daughter said a lot. It seemed like as soon as she would come to a point where she really tried to get an important point across my son would begin to talk. She would become irritated and say, “Why is it every time I talk you want to say something. You never say anything until I start to talk!” My son would say, “You are always talking, let me talk!” But when it was his time, he would only say a few words.

I noticed he never said much to me but whenever I was about to leave to go somewhere he would always ask, “Ma, where are you going?” I really didn't think it made a difference to him whether I was there or not. I later realized that whether we talked or not he simply liked being in my presence.

After apparently having observed Jesus praying one of his disciples came to him and said,“ Teach us to pray…” Luke 11:1. Since prayer is a conversation with God, they were actually saying, “Teach us how to talk to the Father, God the Father, the creator Himself, the Alpha and Omega, the Beginning and the End, the One who knows all and Is all, and sustains all, the great I AM. And Jesus said, “When you pray say Our Father….” Luke 11:2 Hmmm…. Jesus said, say Our Father… In two words Jesus said, my Father is your Father too. Not everyone has this right. This awesome right to call Him Father it's only reserved for His children. John 1:12-13

During a time of great anguish Jesus cried out Abba Father. Mark 14:36 The word Abba is an Aramaic word. Although there is no English equivalent word for Abba some scholars say it is most closely translated as “Daddy.” It signifies the close, intimate relationship of a father to his child, as well as the childlike trust that a young child puts in his “daddy.” Some dispute this and says the word Abba means father or one's own father and addressing God as “Daddy” is disrespectful.

Well, whether Abba means Daddy or simply Father, Jesus taught us that we have a Father on high who sent Him to die and redeem and restore us back into an intimate relationship with Him. Romans 5:1-2, Galatians 3:26, Galatians 4:6-7

Although I addressed my father as daddy, I did not experience that intimate relationship of daddy and child. My dad was a disciplinarian who took care of and supported his family. I loved my dad because he did what he knew to do. He was not the type to just chat with or rather I never experienced that type of conversation. Now that I am grown, he is deceased and that relationship can never be experienced with him. Psalm 68:5

When you look out into the world and see no father, a suppose-to-be father, a father who just doesn't know how to be a father, a father in name only, a deceased father, an ill father, just remember what Jesus taught us and look up to Our Father who art in heaven. Matthew 6:9. He encompasses all things and knows our every need. Matthew 6:8 There is no such father on the earth like our heavenly Father. No man can take care of our every need no matter how great a dad he is. Matthew 6:25-26

This is what OUR FATHER wants us to know today. To know Him as God the Father is to know that if you don't have a daddy, if you never experienced having a daddy, if your daddy has passed, if your daddy is ill, if your daddy is on drugs then look up to Abba (Daddy) Father for He can save your daddy, change your daddy, heal your daddy, bring your daddy home with Him and at the same time be YOUR DADDY.

Our Father says, “_____________ (insert your name) look up to me today and everyday. There is not a need I can't fulfill, not a heart I can't mend, pain that I can't heal, nor a desire that I'm not concerned about. Whatever you desire in a daddy, I AM.”

Unlike my children we never have to tell each other to be quiet and let the other talk. Our Father is Omni-present and Omniscient. He sees all and is present everywhere at all times. And like my son, He too loves being in our presence. Matthew 6:6

Today's Prayer

Our Father in heaven, may your name be kept holy. May your Kingdom come soon. May your will be done on earth, as it is in heaven. Give us today the food we need and forgive us our sins, as we have forgiven those who sin against us. And don't let us yield to temptation, but rescue us from the evil one.

How can we express or even take it all in to have a relationship with the God of all gods, the Ruler of all rulers, the King of all kings, the Creator of all things. Words cannot express nor can enter our minds and hearts those things you have prepared for us as your children. We love you Heavenly Father and thank you for providing our earthly fathers and because of what Christ did for us we thank you for the privilege to call you Abba Father.
