"Mothers Reflecting the Nourishing Nature of God!" [There when no one else is.]

“Now there stood by the cross of Jesus his mother ,…”

John19:25

There is just something about a mother's love. She's there when no one else is.

My mother died when I was 22 years old. I watched my mother suffer many trials and setbacks, times of lack, times that seem like there were more downs then ups and finally illness. But I always remembered her never giving up, fighting and bouncing back again and again. My greatest memory of her was that no matter what she was going through, she always made sure to prepare our Thanksgiving Dinner with the whole works; turkey, dressing, potato salad, gravy, rice, peas, macaroni and cheese, and File gumbo. She not only taught us the blessing of being nourished physically but also spiritually and to always give thanks no matter what our situation might be. She did not just talk it she herself walked it out in front of us 1 Thessalonians 5:18.

She, as with all women and mothers in Christ, are gifts from God. We possess that part of His nature given to women. That part that allowed Him to entrust Mary with Jesus who came to this world in such a vulnerable way as a baby.

Our Lord God, El Shaddai, the Nurturer,

EL -the name for God meaning “strength, might, or power,

Shad meaning “breast” in Hebrew,

(shadaim), indicating sufficiency and nourishment

sha (“who”) and dai (“enough”) to indicate God's complete sufficiency to nurture.

[Dictionary.com says to nourish is to provide with substances necessary for growth, health, and good condition.]

The gift of nourishing is God's gift to humankind. We were created in His image Genesis 1:27 and the gift of motherhood is a reflection of who He is, as El Shaddai, Nurturer, the Great Sufficient One!

I recently saw a Mother's Day graphic that said, “God Bless Mothers” with the scripture reference of Philippians 4:19 “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” I did not immediately make the connection until I begin to type this message.

A mother in Christ is one of the richest gifts God supplies. She cannot provide your every need, but she nourishes you to know the One who does.

I realize not everyone is privied to have experienced what it is like to have a godly mother. I once spoke to my mother's friend as I grieved over the fact that I did not experience having her in my adult life. [My mother's friend said so wisely, “But you have your adult daughter and sons. What you may have missed with your mom you can now experience with your children. Nurture them in the Lord and be like your mom who reflected her Father's nature, the All Sufficient, Nurturing one, the great and mighty El Shaddai."] So, what you may have not received from a godly mother give to your children as God so willingly gives to you.

On Mother's Day remember what Jesus did as He hung on the cross. He remembered and honored His mother and made sure she was taken care of. John 19:25-27. Why did He do it? One reason, possibly, was to give us an example of how to follow Him 1 Peter 2:21.

I've never loss a child but could only imagine what it must have felt like for Mary to have been given such a gift then to lose it. "Children are a gift from the Lord; they are a reward from him." Psalm 127:3 Although the angel revealed to her whom she would nurture, Luke 1:30-33, for a mother's child to suffer and die like her son, I could only imagine.

The only place Mary; a nurturing mother, could have been, was at the cross. She nurtured Him as a baby until He began His ministry and then stood at the cross where she watched her son become her Savior. She realized that He was not loss but died in her midst that she too might live.

If you have suffered the loss of a child, let Mary be your example. Remember if you nurtured him/her, he/she is not loss but is now with Mary's child. (Smile) Let that love now nurture those they may have left behind.

God says, “_______________ (insert your name) wherever your mother is today, if found in my Son, then not only were you nourished, you too have the gift to nourish. In doing so, your seed will never be in lack. Remember never let anyone lack what your godly mother gave to you. Whatever it is today that does not reflect what she taught you, move by the Spirit and make her smile."

Today's Prayer

Dear Heavenly Father,

We thank you today for the awesome gift of Your Only Begotten Son, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. We thank you for calling our mothers and saving them. We thank you for this awesome privilege to be partakers of Your divine nature.

As you have taught us, we honor her whether she's here or gone home to be with you, not only today but always. Help us walk and experience all that her nourishing has provided for our growth in You. And as Jesus did, help us take care of her, and if she's home with you, help us take care of her seed.

It's in Jesus name we pray, Amen, Amen, Amen!!!

(Now make it personal)
